Diageo is one of the largest CPG companies in the world, and their products include Guinness, Johnnie Walker, and Tanqueray. Their data platform has been built on Databricks since 2019, and we have been supporting their push for centralizing their data, which sits globally. This involved harnessing the power of Databricks to transform their data and populate Synapse. With the release of Unity Catalog, there has been an opportunity to bring the analytical layer inside of Databricks itself and separate the data storage and compute layers using a lakehouse architecture. This lakehouse approach and Unity Catalog allowed the chance to unlock other parts of Diageo’s data roadmap more simply. The plans to implement a hub and spoke model, can be achieved more simply with Delta sharing. Find out the lessons we’ve learned from performing a migration on a large scale datalake, and the value that it’s unlocked.
