As Workday’s next Engineering Manager, Data Acquisition, you will be leading a world class R&D team of developers tasked with building the Data Integration Platform as part of Workday’s Prism Analytics product. The Data Integration team is responsible for the development of a distributed data management and storage engine — in the cloud — that powers analytics for Workday’s customers, enabling them to:
Design their ingestion pipeline from various sources
Orchestrate data flow Manage schema evolution over large volumes and variety of data in the cloud
This team is also responsible for building a highly reliable and available storage layer for Datasets using Spark and HDFS that can support various data manipulation operations at the physical layer as well as the logical layer. As an Engineering Manager, our ideal candidate will find great value in building the team and providing the technical direction and mentorship needed for success. Coach, mentor and provide real-time, meaningful and constructive feedback to direct reports.
Grow the team while aligning project assignments with career development goals and Workday’s vision.
Collaborate effectively with engineering leaders on setting technical direction; with Product Management on requirements and trade-offs.
Manage complex technical projects and provide architectural guidance.
Set team-level and engineering best practices around product development to constantly keep the organization lean and efficient.
Successfully deliver enterprise-ready features by leading projects ranging from seed initiatives to customer-focused enhancements.
Demonstrable leadership, management, coaching skills and 2+ years of experience as an Engineering Manager.
Several years of progressive industry experience building and delivering enterprise-grade software for large-scale data.
Experience with Agile software development methodologies and short release cycles.
Superior communication & interpersonal skills.
Currently or previously an expert in a programming language (Java and Scala preferrable).
You also have working knowledge of a Unix environment.
Familiarity with business intelligence and data warehousing principles and techniques.
Knowledge or curiosity to learn modern data management systems like Hadoop and Spark, cluster management, replication, fault-tolerance.
Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or MS in Computer Science
