Skyscanner has always been a data-driven company and extensively uses analytical data to optimize the business and traveler experience. We enrich 30+ billion analytical data events per day. In 2021, we faced significant challenges like frequent data incidents from intricate dependencies and delays alongside complex lineage due to distributed pipeline ownership. These complexities hindered our ability to track data usage and origins effectively. Skyscanner developed a data strategy built on 3 foundations: reliability, trust in our data, and making smart decisions quickly using data. In this session, we will share how we simplified our analytical data infrastructure using the lakehouse architecture and Unity Catalog to deliver a practical approach to data governance. This has been critical to implementing impactful business-critical use cases, including machine learning and AI.
