Department of Transport and Planning (DTP) is revolutionizing transport data management through spatial and aspatial data intersection for modal and multi-modal usage. DTP architected its data platform holistically and integrated it to achieve multiple outcomes with compounding benefits. Location is key to how we operate and understand our environment. Databricks simplifies and unifies how DTP processes, manages and utilizes its aspatial data with its spatial data through new capabilities such as Spatial SQL. DTP recognized that investing in data was an effective and efficient way to improve transport outcomes for the community instead of just focusing on major infrastructure projects. The talk will highlight how DTP has utilized Spatial SQL to read directly from various geospatial formats, use these within their queries with aspatial data, providing a more comprehensive understanding of their data and open up a range of new use cases in asset management, road safety, public transport, emergency, etc.
