At 16 Trillion a year and 30% of global greenhouses, manufacturing is the world's largest sector and one of the most important opportunities for sustainability. Most factories are at most 60-70% as productive and efficient as they might be, and while factories are data rich - generating more than 2x the data of any other sector - the industry has been unable to scale the use of AI. A principal reason is that factory data is in its raw state and unsuited for efficient application of technologies like Databricks. The data is extremely heterogeneous; it lacks metadata and context and must be wrangled by hand to support analysis.
