Announcing the Generative AI World Cup: A Global Hackathon by Databricks

Welcome to the Generative AI World Cup, a global hackathon inviting participants to develop innovative Generative AI applications that solve real-world problems. Participants will compete for a pool of over 50,000 USD in total cash prizes, trophies, and passes for Data and AI Summit 2025.  Participants will also get materials to help skill-up on Generative AI as part of the hackathon process. Who Can Participate?

 The Generative AI World Cup has the following eligibility criteria:

  • Participants must hold a data or AI role in their organization
  • Registration requires a corporate email address
  • Teams must consist of 2 to 4 members
  • Databricks staff, partners, consultants, and students are not eligible.
  • Participants must be 20 years old or above and reside in one of the eligible countries (listed here)

What to Create

Participants are tasked with building a Generative AI application that addresses a real-world problem. Whether you are an AI novice or a seasoned Python pro, this hackathon welcomes all skill levels. Databricks will provide learning content, recommended datasets, and where needed, limited free credit (up to 500$ per team) in Databricks usage.

Submission Requirements

To enter the competition, teams must submit:

  • A demo video (3-5 minutes) showcasing their application and answering key questions about the industry use case, dataset, model, and techniques used
  • A project description on Angelhacks, including the hosted video and names of all teammates

The submission deadline is 5 PM PT on October 18, 2024.

Getting Started

To help participants succeed, Databricks offers several enablement sessions:

  • Virtual Onboarding Session: Available on-demand, this session covers how to get started with Generative AI on Databricks 
  • Enablement/Office Hours (September 5, 2024 - October 11, 2024): These sessions provide ongoing support and resources
  • GenAI Training (valued at $750) to learn from experts on how to get your GenAI apps ready

Judging Criteria

Submissions will be evaluated based on the following criteria:

  • Creativity: Is the idea new and original?
  • Business Applicability: Does it solve a real business problem?
  • Data Relevance: Are relevant and interesting datasets and tools combined effectively?
  • Thoroughness: Is the application user-friendly and insightful?
  • Well-Architected: Can the application scale efficiently and accommodate additional features? Does it use advanced GenAI techniques that customize foundation models with enterprise data (for example RAG or Agents)?
