SAN FRANCISCO – December 19, 2018 – Databricks, the leader in unified analytics and founded by the original creators of Apache Spark™, today announced that it continues international expansion to support the growing demand for unified analytics. In addition to establishing its Asia Pacific and Japan headquarters in Singapore, Databricks appointed Jason Bissell as the General Manager and Senior Vice President of Sales, responsible for driving growth within the region.

“The Unified Analytics Platform is quickly being adopted by global enterprises so it is only natural that Databricks expand into the APJ region. We’re already engaged with customers within 12 countries in the region, and expect that to grow rapidly,” said Ron Gabrisko, chief revenue officer at Databricks.

Bringing more than 25 years of sales leadership experience with hyper-growth companies, Bissell will spearhead Databricks’ expansion strategy to satisfy the region’s demand for unified analytics in the cloud. Prior to joining Databricks, Bissell served as General Manager and Senior Vice President of Sales at Talend and was responsible for leading the company’s business strategy. During his tenure, Bissell oversaw the regions sales and business strategy where he grew the team across six countries in APAC. Bissell also lead efforts at Birst to establish the company’s presence outside of the United States as the Vice President of International Markets, then went on to lead the APJ region. While at QuilTek, Bissell established and led the APAC business.

Added Gabrisko, “Jason’s experience with analytics, cloud, and hyper-growth companies are a natural fit to spearhead our growth strategy.”

Databricks works with global organizations to unify their data at scale and unify that data with the best AI technologies. Databricks’ Unified Analytics Platform accelerates innovation by removing silos and unifying data science, engineering and business, enabling enterprises to adopt tangible AI and machine learning strategies.

“Companies are struggling to succeed with AI because data science and data engineering are siloed in different systems and different organizations – this is the AI dilemma,” Bissell said. “Databricks has proven the ability to resolve these bottlenecks and help data teams solve the world’s toughest problems through unified analytics. I’m honored to lead Databricks’ APAC headquarters in Singapore and drive its overall growth strategy in the APJ region.”
