Latin American business grows over 80 percent as enterprise demand for data intelligence increases
MEXICO CITY, MEXICO - October 16, 2024 - Databricks, the Data and AI company, today announced plans to expand its investment in the Latin American (LATAM) market, driven by a surge in demand for data intelligence. Databricks plans to open its next LATAM office in Mexico City in the first half of 2025 to support its several hundred customers in LATAM. Databricks’ Mexican enterprise customers are currently leveraging its multi-cloud Data Intelligence Platform in U.S. cloud regions on Amazon Web Services (AWS), Azure and Google Cloud Platform (GCP). To meet the data, AI and governance demands of Mexican enterprises, the Databricks Data Intelligence Platform will be available in the Azure Mexico data center in early 2025. Globally, Databricks surpassed US$2.4 billion in annualized revenue in the first half of its fiscal year. The data intelligence pioneer has seen over 80 percent year-over-year growth in the LATAM market.
As generative AI disrupts every industry, a company’s data becomes its competitive advantage. Yet, many companies are still not taking full advantage of their data to accelerate their AI goals. The Databricks Data Intelligence Platform democratizes access to analytics and intelligent applications by marrying customers’ data with powerful AI models tuned to the unique characteristics of their business. The platform is built on a lakehouse foundation of open data formats and open governance to ensure that all data is completely within the customers’ control.
Hundreds of customers in LATAM, including Grupo Bimbo, Bineo and Kueski, leverage Databricks to transform their businesses and drive innovation. Over the past two years, Databricks has expanded its footprint in LATAM with offices in São Paulo, Brazil and San José, Costa Rica and has grown its headcount in the region to nearly 300 people. The company continues to actively hire for a variety of technical, customer-facing and operations roles to support regional growth and will focus initially on go-to-market hires in Mexico.
“We’re seeing unprecedented demand for data and AI from companies across the region. Mexico is known for its innovative and diverse ecosystem, so expanding into the region was a natural next step for Databricks,” said Marcos Grilanda, Vice President and General Manager for Latin America at Databricks. “We are looking forward to helping more Mexican enterprises unlock the power of data intelligence and contributing to the data and AI ecosystem by helping train and upskill local businesses.”
“At Grupo Bimbo, we carry out hundreds of thousands of transactions a day globally, and we needed a solution that could help us enhance our ever-expanding data processing and analytics capabilities,” said Diego Bustos, Chief Data & Analytics Officer at Grupo Bimbo. “The Databricks Data Intelligence Platform has helped us manage and govern our growing data, improve our digital operations and enhance our customer experience.”
