Mission
The Director of Equity Administration will oversee the day-to-day operations of our employee equity programs and assist in continuing to scale our stock administration function as Databricks grows. You will work closely with various cross functional teams including HR, legal, finance, treasury, external service providers and auditors. You will own the communication strategy for equity for all stakeholders, including executive staff, employees and external partners. This is a highly visible position and requires a focus on employee success and the ability to effectively interact, communicate, and present ideas and concepts clearly with multiple departments and to all levels within the organization, including senior management.
This leader will strategize and plan for the expected growth in the organization, both domestically and internationally, and be accountable for streamlining and scaling equity award systems and processes while establishing and monitoring strong internal controls. The ideal candidate will have excellent customer service and communication skills, a high level of accuracy, strong business acumen, ability to focus on detail, strong technical skills, and take pride in producing high quality work. You will also need to be proactive and engaged, able to work well cross-functionally both internally and externally, excited about technology and data, and ready to roll up your sleeves and dig into tough problems.
Outcomes
- Develop and articulate a vision and strategy for the function
- Responsible for all aspects of global equity administration, including employee communication strategy, managing a complex capitalization table, accuracy and completeness of all equity data, investor analysis and related tax reporting
- Provide strategic advice to the company and cross-functional partners on the design and implementation of our global equity program, especially as we expand internationally into more complex jurisdictions
- Lead efforts to grow and scale the equity administration function, including enhancing and automating existing manual processes and helping to evaluate service providers and platforms
- Manage the month-end close process for stock compensation accounting including but not limited to journal entry review, account reconciliation, accounting memos
- Use and maintain our equity management platform to oversee all participant equity plan transactions (grants, exercises etc.) and ensure that they are correctly processed in a timely manner
- Ensure global equity reporting and compliance with international tax and regulatory requirements, including year-end equity related tax filing
- Maintain and update documents defining procedures for all plan administration and ensuring that internal controls and procedures are in place
Competencies / Requirements
- Bachelor's degree in Accounting/Finance or similar preferred with 12+ years of progressive experience and increasing level of responsibility within equity administration with 3-5 years at a publicly traded company
- CEP certification required
- Thorough understanding of equity instruments and applicable taxation
- Exceptional analytical thinker with strong conceptual and problem-solving skills, and sound independent judgment
- Extensive experience working cross-functionally on equity matters with Legal, Finance, and People teams
- Experience helping a company through the IPO process
- A proven track record of leveraging technology to support growth at scale
- A passion for equity and helping our employees understand it
- Ability to maintain strict confidentiality of materials and information
- Able to multi-task, prioritize and work under tight deadlines

The pay range(s) for this role is listed below and represents base salary range for non-commissionable roles or on-target earnings for commissionable roles. Actual compensation packages are based on several factors that are unique to each candidate, including but not limited to job-related skills, depth of experience, relevant certifications and training, and specific work location. Based on the factors above, Databricks utilizes the full width of the range. The total compensation package for this position may also include eligibility for annual performance bonus, equity, and the benefits listed above.
