Databricks Marketplace: A Guide for Legal Departments
Introduction
Welcome to our introductory guide about the Databricks Marketplace. This guide is designed for the legal departments of organizations who are interested in joining the Marketplace as a Data Provider.
The Databricks Marketplace is a platform that enables organizations to list and share their data assets. By listing datasets, machine learning models, and analytical tools, organizations can unlock new revenue streams.

Key Parties
There are several key parties involved in the Databricks Marketplace:
- Data Providers are organizations who list a data asset (i.e., datasets, AI models, notebooks) on the Marketplace to share and/or monetize.
- Data Consumers are third parties who are interested in a Data Provider’s data asset listed in the Marketplace.
- Databricks plays several roles in the Marketplace. We host each Data Provider’s listing and facilitate the introduction between Data Providers and Data Consumers.
How does the Databricks Marketplace work?
The Databricks Marketplace offers Data Providers the ability to list their data asset(s), which can be made available either through “instant access” or “by request”:
- “Instant access”: The Data Consumer must accept the Data Provider’s terms of service prior to accessing the data set.
- “By request”: Databricks shares the contact information of the Data Consumer with the Data Provider. No Data Assets are shared unless the Data Provider chooses to share.
For “by request” listings, the Data Provider and Data Consumer negotiate terms outside the Databricks Marketplace. Once an agreement is reached, the Data Provider will use Databricks Delta Sharing to share the data asset(s) with the Data Consumer.
How does a Data Provider sign up for the Marketplace?
It’s easy to join the Databricks Marketplace! Data Providers simply visit our Partner Portal to submit the required information and agree to our Data Partner Program which outlines the details of how the program operates.
