Today we are announcing a deep partnership with SAP which we think can be game changing for our industry. In short, it is the marriage between the most important business data for enterprises globally (SAP data) and the best data platform in the market (Databricks). Our new offering, SAP Databricks, is sold by SAP as part of SAP Business Data Cloud on Azure, AWS, and GCP. SAP Databricks provides customers artificial intelligence, data warehousing, and data engineering capabilities, all goverened by Unity Catalog.
In the past years, Databricks has expanded its portfolio of products to cover more and more of the data and AI space, ranging from data engineering, data warehousing, governance, business intelligence, and AI. Every time we announced one of these expansions to our customers we would get the question from the audience "What about SAP data? Do you have any plans for that?" and we would see many nodding faces in the audience. This is because SAP data—which powers ERP for business planning, Ariba for procurement, SuccessFactors for HR, Concur for travel management—is essential for the 90% of Fortune 500 organizations leveraging SAP. Using that essential data with modern data platforms outside SAP has been daunting and hard.
This is why we think this partnership will have a big impact on our customer base. SAP Databricks will have all the relevant datasets enriched and ready to be used for everything from data warehousing to building AI that can reason on that data. We call the latter data intelligence, i.e. not just general intelligence, but intelligence that can reason on this essential business data.
The real magic of this partnership is that enterprises can easily combine their SAP data with the rest of their enterprise data. SAP Business Data Cloud empowers customers to unlock insights and business value of context-rich SAP data in both SAP Databricks and all existing and new Databricks deployments via Delta Sharing. We expect this to dramatically increase the productivity of teams trying to use these data sets.
At Databricks, we just finished a large $15B fundraise. We intend to earmark a quarter of a billion dollars ($250M) to help make our customers and SI partners successful with SAP Databricks across deployment, migrations, and ultimately unlocking the tremendous business value of SAP data.
We are very excited about this long-term partnership and look forward to unlocking the value of all this business data with SAP Databricks.
